Tutorial for our Majestic Illuminated Garland Ensemble

Picture this: it’s a frosty winter evening, and the kids are buzzing with holiday excitement. You have set your newly hung ornament timers the day before so that you know they'll light up at 5:00pm and you tell them at 4:59 to make a Christmas wish. When they gasp at the magically lit Majestic Illuminated Ensemble, you feel a swell of Christmas joy knowing you created that magical sight and sweet childhood memory. The Interior Delights Majestic Illuminated Garland Ensemble takes a clever twist on the viral shower curtain rod hack and raises it to another level of elegance, warmth, and whimsy. It’s more than decor; it’s a wonderland you’ll all love to gather around.

Here’s the full guide to turning your doorway into a winter showstopper—packed with tips, tricks, and just enough wit to make sure this feels more like creative play than a crafting chore! This blog post is for those who like to follow instructions, if you are more of a visual learner, skip to our video tutorial at the very bottom of this page.

What’s Inside the Majestic Garland Ensemble?

In this easy-to-assemble kit, you’ll find everything you need (almost) for a Pinterest-perfect entryway. This ensemble is designed to fit spaces between 60" and 80" wide, making it adaptable to almost any home. Order the whole ensemble HERE. Here is what is included:

Six Illuminated Glass Ornaments: These glass gems dangle from elegant ribbons and ropes, giving off a warm glow thanks to micro-LEDs nestled inside. Each ornament is roughly 8" in size, and all are on a convenient 6-hour timer to add a touch of sparkle to your evenings without lifting a finger.

Two Cedar Eucalyptus Garlands: Each is 6 feet long and lightweight, draping gracefully over any rod for a full, luxurious feel.

Two Cedar Garlands: Also 6 feet each, these add a more natural, woodsy vibe, creating a layered look that’s both chic and cozy.

Pearlescent Shatterproof Ornaments: With two boxes of these shatterproof beauties, you get the beauty of delicate ornaments without the anxiety—perfect for when tiny hands are tempted to touch! You'll get 4 large balls and 6 medium sized balls.

Get Ready. While the decor essentials are covered, you’ll need to purchase a few basics to bring it all together.  Here are the affiliate links to the additional products that I found on Amazon.

  • Shower Curtain Rod: A 90" tension rod (not included) is perfect, so be sure to measure your space and order one that is at least 10" larger than your space to ensure there is enough tension to hold the weight of the ensemble.
  • Green Zip Ties: These little camouflaged heroes will help secure everything without stealing the spotlight.
  • Fishing Wire: Perfect for securing ornaments in midair, creating a “floating” effect.
  • Step Stool: Let’s face it, reaching the top of the door frame while balancing decor isn’t the best time for improvisation.
  • Batteries: You’ll need 9AA and 6AAA batteries to keep those LEDs shining all season.

How to Make Your Own Illuminated Garland Ensemble

Now, let’s get down to business—the step-by-step for turning an everyday entryway into a winter masterpiece! Read this tutorial before you start so you know all the tips in advance. You can also watch our tutorial video to see how this is done.

Before you dive in, set up your shower curtain rod nice and snug where you’ll be hanging it—eye level is key for easy ornament-hanging! Once you’re done, you’ll lift the rod up toward the ceiling to show off your masterpiece. Grab a buddy for this; it’s way more fun as a two-person project!

Step 1: Setting Up the Garlands on the rod... There are four garlands in our ensemble and they are intended to be layered together.  Separate the greenery to fluff them out after being boxed up. You will layer one cedar and one cedar eucalyptus together and slide a slip tie through the loops on the end to connect them.  Find the center point of the rod and connect one bundle so that it drapes to the left and the other bundle so that it drapes to the right.  Cross the garlands over each other for added depth. This isn’t just about aesthetics; crossing them will keep them from slipping as you are trying to wrap it around the bar.   I recommend using 6-8 zip ties across the top of your rod to keep it in place.

Step 2: Ornament time! Tie 3-5 ft of fishing line onto each of your shatterproof ball ornaments before you begin.  Lay your illuminated glass ornaments and shatterproof ornaments on the floor in the order you'd like them to hang. This step is key for spacing and ensuring you don’t end up with all the sparkles on one side.

Step 3: Start with your large illuminated glass ornaments and space them out the way you like them.  Loop your rope or ribbon over the rod and secure it with zip ties. Stagger their heights for a “low-high-low-high” rhythm, which keeps things visually interesting and lets each piece shine.  Don't worry about the dangling battery packs.  You'll secure those to the top at the very end. Do the same thing with the shatterproof ornaments, tying a few knots to make sure they are tightly secured. Here’s a trick: as you hang, take a step back and check from a distance to see how they look. Adjust until they look evenly distributed and staggered for a dynamic finish.

Step 4: Set your timers and hide your battery packs.  You are going to be really anxious to get your ensemble into place, but I recommend timing this step with the time that you want your lights to come on.  You only have to do this once, so it's worth the wait.  Set the timers in your battery packs, twist the additional cord around the battery pack, then use zipties to hide your battery packs underneath the garland.  Batteries don't last forever, so you'll eventually need to change the batteries in your packs.  Keep this in mind when securing everything.

Step 5: Now is the time you've been waiting for! The raising of the shower curtain rod. This part is exciting, but we highly suggest having a partner for this part.  You will need to slide your shower curtain rod up the wall until it's flush with the ceiling.  As you raise the rod, you may need to adjust the tension a little bit.  One person should safely hold the rod and the other person should adjust the tension on the rod so that it's is secure.  It's shouldn't wobble or feel flimsy.

Step back and admire your work!  Make adjustments as necessary.  You've worked hard for this!  Enjoy it for seasons to come!
A Few Final Tips for Picture-Perfect Garland

Use Your Space Wisely! This ensemble was made for flexibility. Whether it’s an entryway, window, or an unused doorway, this design fits spaces of all sizes between 60" and 80". You can even hang it over a wide window or in the dining room doorway, where it can serve as a twinkling backdrop for holiday dinners. One reason moms love this setup? Those ornaments are out of reach of little ones!

Voilà! You’ve turned an ordinary space into something magical, warm, and festive that you’ll enjoy every day. This is the kind of decor that doesn’t just look beautiful—it creates memories. It’s where you’ll watch your kids’ eyes light up, where they’ll dance under the garland’s glow, and where you’ll snap photos that last a lifetime.

And the best part? When the holidays are over, this look can stay up into February, keeping your home cozy and bright through the longest winter nights. Here is the video for all the visual learners out there...
